Wrexham 1 Liverpool 2 (Friendly)
Wrexham emerged from this game with much credit, although (despite the reported £160,000 raised) sadly not in credit. Hector Sam gave the home side an early lead. Anthony Le Tallec soon leveled though, which must have impressed his manager, as he became the only Liverpool player to play the whole 90 minutes. This faith was repaid less than 15 minutes from time, as the young Frenchman added a second to ensure that Liverpool would win their first match under Rafael Benitez. In all, it seems that the match was worthwhile, and the Wrexham performance, coming as it did only 24 hours after the Bristol Rovers match, was worthy of the 15,000 crowd. Although Michael Owen didn't make an appearance, Wrexham fans got to see players such as Djibril Cisse, Harry Kewell, Samii Hyypia and the great Igor Biscan (yes, that was a joke). In terms of preparation for the new season, though, things don't look so good. Chris Armstong and Craig Morgan, who perhaps wouldn't have played against Liverpool were it not so high-profile a match, have both suffered setbacks. Meanwhile, Hector Sam and Steve Roberts have both picked up injuries during the game. The side that will take on Carlisle on Friday for the coveted accolade of Third Place in the Isle Of Man Tournament will therefore be likely to feature Levi Mackin and Matty Done, who must surely be minutes away from collapsing from exhaustion.
