A Week Off
No game for Wrexham today, as it's FA Cup Third Round weekend (it could've been us playing
Chelsea...), so a chance to reflect on off-the field occurrences. The main even this week was
the appeal against the 10-point deduction imposed by the Football League. With the ways
things have been going so far in 2005, I wasn't holding out much hope. Turns out I was right
not to.
My personal view is that in Wrexham's case, applying a punishment will only hurt those who've
fought against what's been happening at the club recently. Compared to other cases of clubs
going into administration due to plain and simple overspending on the likes of Benito Carbone
(as in Bradford City's case), Wrexham are perhaps least deserving of becoming the first club to
be penalised, and probably relegated, because of this rule.
In other news, it is hoped that the Football League will grant an exemption to the transfer
embargo associated with the club being in administration, to allow Wrexham to bring in an
emergency goalkeeper (Xavi Valero).
