Open Day, Ben Foster, Smith, and a Saviour?

Today is Wrexham's Open Day, the highlight of which is expected to be a 'Probables Vs. Possibles' game in which one of the teams was picked by competition-winner Andrew Smith.

Speaking of Andrew Smiths, the one who'd negotiated a three-week 'lock-out' period in which to buy Wrexham from Alex Hamilton has let those three weeks pass without action or comment. Some are now suggesting that Mr. Smith's involvement was intended merely to disrupt the rival bid for the club form Neville Dickens and Geoff Moss.

If he's not to be the club's saviour, then, who will be? Perhaps it will be former Malta goalkeeper Saviour Darmanin, who will reportedly begin a trial period at the Racecourse Ground on Monday.

One goalkeeper who looks like he'll be on the move is Ben Foster, star of the LDV Vans Trophy Final when on loan at Wrexham last season. Manchester United have agreed a fee with Stoke City for Foster, worth £1m upfront with further payments possibly totaling £1.5m. Apparently a certain Mr. Ferguson was impressed with the young goalkeeper's performance at the Millennium Stadium...
