Novelty
I've found myself counting down the days to the start of the new season, watching any football at all that's on TV - Intertoto Cup, Champions League Qualifying, Amsterdam Tournament, US tours. It's strange how I seem to have such an appetite for football now, when back in May I was a bit disillusioned (maybe even just bored) with the game.
Perhaps part of it's to do with Wrexham's relegation, and the bad taste it left behind - a taste I'm now desperate to wash away. But I think it probably happens every year; the novelty of the new season, the new kits, the new signings, the new Championship Manager/Football Manager/Pro Evolution Soccer, etc just seem to get me excited about football again.
Speaking of potential new signings, it seems that Paul Warhurst is in the frame for a move to the Racecourse. I'm not sure that he's the sort of player we really need at the moment, but Denis Smith has a pretty good record of recognising a good signing (although he has made a few mistakes in the past). My main concern is that we could be allocating one of our two remaining spots in the squad to a player who might be out injured for half the season.
