Blackpool 4 Wrexham 3 (aet)

Poor defending gave Blackpool an early headstart last night, with Dennis Lawrence and Michael Ingham involved in a mix-up which gifted Matt Blinkhorn the opening goal on 2 minutes.

It looked as if that solitary goal would be enough for the home side, until Mark Jones scored two in as many minutes for Wrexham, dramatically swinging the game's momentum.

But ex-Wrexham centre-back Mark MacGregor popped up to volley home an equaliser with only five minutes of normal time remaining, to send the game into extra time.

The game swung again in extra time, with Darren Ferguson putting Wrexham ahead again, but Keith Southern and Scott Vernon both scored for the home side to put the LDV Vans Trophy holders out in the first round.
