An 89th-minute Lee McEvilly penalty, earned when Robbie Foy was brought down dubiously close to the edge of the penalty area, was the difference between the two sides at the Racecourse.
Argument about whether a penalty should have been given or not spilled over into the aftermath of the game, with Darlington defender Joey Hutchinson being sent off after the final whistle.
