Summer Holiday

It seems like years since I updated this site, never mind weeks. First there was my holiday in central Italy, a location I was horrified to find I shared with both Tony Blair and Anne Robinson. I was a little further from civilisation than I suspect they were, so finding any national Italian Newspaper was hard enough, never mind an English paper. And, for some reason, La Gazzetta dello Sport didn't publish Wrexham's results. In fact, it was only when I got the the airport on the way back that I discovered Wrexham's record of (at the time) two wins and one defeat, although I did manage to keep up to date with the Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate sagas, and discover one Wrexham result (the 3-2 victory over Oldham), by way of day-old papers bought on trips to places like Perugia and Siena.

But my inability to update this site in the last three weeks is not all down to being out of the country. I arrived home on Sunday, only to find that none of the light switches worked, and that there was an inhuman smell coming from the direction of the freezer. Yes, the electricity had shorted out, putting paid not only to my hopes of watching Football League Extra, but also the immediate usability of my computer.

Now that I am finally able to comment on Wrexham's start to the season, I can only do so based on statistics rather than performances or first-hand knowledge. Seven points from four games is form I would happily see reproduced over the course of the season, especially given Carlos Edwards' injury and the club's off-field problems. If Hector Sam can continue to score goals, then finishing safely in the top half of the table is a realistic aim. The league is crammed full of sides which have reason to believe they should be higher up in the order of things, and treading water, while never anyone's choice, may be all that can be hoped for.
